Microdermabrasion is a popular treatment due to its proven results. It can help to reduce the signs of aging, remove acne scars and help to clear pimples and blemishes.

After you have undergone microdermabrasion treatment, your skin is delicate, and requires a proper routine. You need to look after your skin, and with our top tips, your skin will be looking its best in no time.

Cleanse your face

Immediately after your treatment, gently cleanse your face. Use a wet cloth and a rehydrating toner. This helps to remove any of the treatment that may have been left behind. Allow to air dry or dry with a soft towel. Remember to be as gentle as possible; your skin is still healing.

Use a moisturiser

Invest in a rich moisturiser, and make sure to use it 4-6 days after your treatment. This is to help stop any excessive peeling. Use it as often as required throughout the healing process.

Avoid the sun & use suncream

Whilst you should be doing this anyway, it’s particularly important after microdermabrasion. Try to avoid the sun for 7 days after your treatment, as microdermabrasion increases photosensitivity, and the UV rays can damage the skin, slowing down recovery. If you do go out, then make sure to use a high factor suncream. Make sure to do this even if it’s overcast!

Don’t pick

Peeling skin after your treatment is completely normal, but it’s important to resist the urge to pick at your skin and just leave it as it is. Picking and removing the dead skin can cause scarring and unwanted pigmentation. You need to avoid picking at your face as much as possible. If you find that your skin is itching and uncomfortable, apply some aloe vera to help soothe it.

Don’t irritate your skin

You need to avoid using any harsh chemicals on your skin through the healing process. For the 48 hours after the treatment, avoid putting on any makeup, aftershave or perfume (which can be difficult for those of us who love our makeup!).  You also need to avoid any heat treatments, such as saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers, as well as avoiding facial waxing and tanning.
